The Red Dress party may be over, but we are sure that people will remember the good times for months to come. Bourbon Street was a sea of red from one end to the other - boy would that have made a great shot from a helicopter. Wherever you go on the Internet you find pictures from the RDR - people with bright red dresses and smiling faces - that’s what makes this event a success for us. That means a lot since the New Orleans Red Dress Run (walk, stroll, crawl, whatever) is the largest in the world no matter how you measure it - over 7,000 registered participants - over 250 kegs of beer. It takes a lot of work to make it happen, but it really is worth it when it comes off so well. Lots of other elements came together to make it great - nearly perfect weather - great music from Blackened Blues and the Boogiemen - yummy food with almost no waiting in line, thanks to Corky’s. This one is going to be hard to top, but come around in 2011 and watch us do just that!
We’ve barely got the trucks unloaded and everything put away, but we are already working on the best part of the Red Dress Fest - giving the money away to New Orleans charities. Just as soon as the last bills are in we will be able to tell you how much, but we can tell you it is going to be even more than last year. In the next couple of days we will have grant applications online and when that is up and working you can find the application and guidelines linked here.
Another thing that everyone liked is a chance to see all of the great pictures from Red Dress Week, including the Red Skirt Run on Monday, the Pre-Lube on Friday, the Big Red Saturday, and the Hangover Hash on Sunday. If you have any images posted online that you would like to share, just email us at curtmc@busting-loose.net and give us the link and we will add it to our directory of Red Dress images on the Internet.
So, if you had a great time and want to know more about the crazy group of hashers that put this on, why not come out and hash with us. Just click the link to the Calendar at the top of the page and find out where we will be hashing next Monday. All you have to do is show up, bring a few bucks to cover beer and maybe food, wear comfortable running clothes and some old shoes (or wear new ones and see what happens). We’d be happy to have you with us.
Want to know more about hashing but aren’t in the New Orleans area? All you have to do is Google ‘Hash House Harriers” and your closest city and odds are good you will find a great bunch of new friends there, too. Tell them NOH3 sent ya.
